Levetiracetam is the active ingredient in the medication.It is an anti-epileptic drug (AED) that works by blocking the spread of abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
Levetiracetam is used to treat partialonset seizures in adults and children 4 years of age and older.
It can also be used to treat myoclonic seizures in adults and children 12 years of age and older.
In some cases, it may be used as an addon therapy for generalized tonic-clonic seizures in adults.
Keppra Syp 300ml (Levetiracetam) works by binding to a specific protein in the brain called synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A). This binding action helps to reduce the release of certain neurotransmitters, which in turn helps to prevent the spread of abnormal electrical activity that causes seizures.
Store levetiracetam at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
The dosage of levetiracetam will be determined by your doctor based on your individual needs and medical history.
It is typically taken twice a day, with or without food.
Follow your doctor's instructions carefully and do not change your dosage without consulting them.
The most common side effects of levetiracetam include drowsiness, dizziness, and fatigue.
Other possible side effects include: headache, nausea, vomiting, difficulty concentrating, behavior changes, and mood swings.
