Metformin

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in adults, especially those who are overweight or obese

This medication is a combination of two drugs that work in different ways to lower blood sugar levels. Empagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It works by blocking the reabsorption of glucose in the kidneys, leading to increased glucose excretion in the urine. Metformin is a biguanide that works by lowering the production of glucose in the liver, improving insulin sensitivity, and reducing the absorption of glucose from the intestines. By working together, these drugs help to lower blood sugar levels in people with T2DM.

Store at room temperature between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F) in a tightly closed container. Keep the medication out of reach of children and pets. Do not use the medication after the expiry date printed on the label.

Dosage is determined by your doctor based on your individual needs and response to the medication.

The medication is usually taken orally twice daily, with or without food.

Do not skip doses or stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose.

Serious side effects can occur, including: dehydration, kidney problems, heart failure, bone fractures, and allergic reactions. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any severe side effects.

Common side effects include: urinary tract infections, yeast infections, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, gas, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), and lactic acidosis.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can increase the risk of low blood sugar and lactic acidosis. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption while taking this medication.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

This medication may cause dizziness or lightheadedness, which can affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these symptoms.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

This medication should not be used during pregnancy as it may harm the fetus. It is also not recommended for breastfeeding women, as it may pass into breast milk.



Children

This medication is not indicated for use in children.



Kidney

Patients with kidney problems may need a lower dose or more frequent monitoring. This medication can worsen kidney function in some individuals.



Liver

Patients with liver problems may need a lower dose or more frequent monitoring. This medication should be used with caution in patients with liver disease.
