Metformin

Type 2 diabetes mellitus

To improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes who are not adequately controlled with metformin alone.

This combination medication works by helping your body use insulin more effectively and by lowering the amount of sugar your liver produces. Sitagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It works by increasing levels of incretin hormones, which help lower blood sugar. Metformin is a biguanide. It works by lowering glucose production in the liver, improving insulin sensitivity, and slowing down the absorption of sugar from your gut.

Store at room temperature between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F). Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Your doctor will determine the best dosage for you based on your individual needs.

Typically taken twice daily with meals.

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water.

Do not crush, break, or chew the tablets.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

Serious side effects can occur, including lactic acidosis (a buildup of lactic acid in the blood), which can be fatal.

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following: severe stomach pain, muscle cramps, unusual tiredness, rapid breathing, or a fast or irregular heartbeat.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, gas, and headache.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can increase the risk of lactic acidosis, especially when taken with metformin. Limit alcohol intake while taking this medication.



While Driving or operating Machinery

This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

This medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of using this medication if you are breastfeeding.



Children

This medication is not approved for use in children.



Kidney

This medication can be harmful to your kidneys. Your doctor will monitor your kidney function while you are taking this medication.

This medication can be harmful to your liver. Your doctor will monitor your liver function while you are taking this medication.
