A biguanide that helps lower blood glucose levels by reducing glucose production in the liver and improving insulin sensitivity.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, particularly those who have not achieved adequate glycemic control with metformin alone.
This combination medication works synergistically. Sitagliptin increases incretin hormone levels, leading to improved glucose-dependent insulin secretion and reduced glucagon secretion. Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production, enhances insulin sensitivity, and improves glucose uptake by peripheral tissues. Together, they provide a more comprehensive approach to blood sugar control.
Store at room temperature (20-25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
Dosage should be determined by your doctor and may be adjusted based on your response to treatment and kidney function.
Typically started at a lower dose and gradually increased as tolerated.
Taken with or without food, as directed by your physician.
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) – especially if combined with other diabetes medications or if calories are insufficient.

Allergic reactions
Alcohol can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis. Limit alcohol intake while taking this medication.
May cause dizziness or lightheadedness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
Consult your doctor. Metformin is generally not recommended during pregnancy. Sitagliptin use during pregnancy requires careful evaluation of risks and benefits. Breastfeeding is not recommended while using this medication.
Not approved for use in children.
Renal function should be monitored. Dosage adjustments may be needed based on kidney function.
Liver function should be monitored. Use with caution in patients with liver disease.
