Sitagliptin: A dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that helps increase the body's own insulin production.

Metformin: A biguanide that helps lower blood sugar levels by decreasing glucose production by the liver and improving insulin sensitivity.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus: To improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes, especially when metformin alone is insufficient.

Sitagliptin inhibits DPP-4, an enzyme that breaks down incretins (hormones that stimulate insulin release). This leads to increased insulin secretion and decreased glucagon secretion, ultimately lowering blood glucose levels. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production, enhances insulin sensitivity, and improves glucose uptake by peripheral tissues.

Store at room temperature (below 30°C), away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

Dosage should be determined by a healthcare professional based on individual needs and response to treatment.

Typically started at a lower dose and gradually increased as tolerated.

Take with food to minimize gastrointestinal side effects.

Less Common: Upper respiratory tract infection, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar – especially if combined with other diabetes medications or if missing meals), allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling)

Rare but Serious: Lactic acidosis (a rare but serious condition characterized by the build-up of lactic acid in the blood), pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), liver problems

Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can increase the risk of lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia. Moderate alcohol consumption should be discussed with a doctor.



While Driving or operating Machinery

May cause dizziness or hypoglycemia, potentially affecting the ability to drive or operate machinery. Exercise caution.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Not recommended during pregnancy. Consult a healthcare professional. Use with caution during breastfeeding; monitor infant for hypoglycemia.



Children

Not approved for use in children.



Kidney

Dose adjustment or avoidance may be necessary in individuals with kidney problems. Regular kidney function monitoring may be required.



Liver

Dose adjustment or avoidance may be necessary in individuals with liver problems. Liver function tests may be recommended.
