Isoniazid

An antibiotic that specifically targets mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that cause tuberculosis (tb).

Rifampicin

Another antibiotic effective against mycobacterium tuberculosis and a wide range of other bacteria. it works by inhibiting bacterial rna synthesis.

Prophylaxis (prevention) of tuberculosis in individuals with high risk of exposure (e.g., close contacts of TB patients)

Ipcacin Kid Tab (Isoniazid + Rifampicin) are bactericidal (kill bacteria) antibiotics that work synergistically. Isoniazid interferes with the synthesis of mycolic acids, essential components of the mycobacterial cell wall. Rifampicin inhibits bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, preventing the synthesis of messenger RNA and bacterial proteins, ultimately leading to bacterial death.

Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.

Dosage is determined by the physician based on the patient's age, weight, and overall health. It varies significantly depending on the type and severity of the infection and the patient's response to therapy.

The medication is typically administered orally (taken by mouth).

Alcohol Consumption

Patients should be aware that side effects such as dizziness or fatigue may impair their ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid such activities if experiencing these symptoms.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be carefully considered and only undertaken under strict medical supervision. The potential benefits must outweigh the potential risks to the mother and child.



Children

Dosage for children is different from that for adults and is carefully determined by the physician based on weight and age.



Kidney

Kidney function should be monitored, especially in patients with pre-existing kidney disease, as the drugs may be excreted differently.



Liver

Regular liver function tests are essential as both drugs can cause liver damage (hepatotoxicity). Early detection is crucial for timely intervention.
