Glibenclamide

A sulfonylurea drug that stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin.

Metformin

A biguanide drug that improves insulin sensitivity and reduces glucose production by the liver.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in patients who are not adequately controlled with diet and exercise alone.

Used when metformin monotherapy is insufficient to achieve target blood glucose levels.

Glibenclamide stimulates insulin release from the beta cells in the pancreas, while metformin enhances insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues and reduces hepatic glucose production. The combination provides a synergistic effect in controlling blood glucose levels.

Store at room temperature (below 30°C), away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Symptoms include dizziness, sweating, shakiness, and confusion.

Lactic acidosis (rare but serious): characterized by muscle pain, weakness, and shortness of breath. Seek immediate medical attention.

Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain).

Weight gain.

Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling).

Vitamin B12 deficiency (longterm use).

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis. It should be avoided or limited.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Hypoglycemia can impair cognitive function and reaction time, making it unsafe to drive or operate machinery.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Generally not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consult your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or are planning to breastfeed.



Children

Not typically used in children.



Kidney

Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with kidney disease due to the risk of lactic acidosis. Regular monitoring of kidney function is important.



Liver

Caution is advised in patients with liver disease. Liver function tests may be monitored.
