A sulfonylurea drug that stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin.
A biguanide that improves insulin sensitivity and reduces glucose production by the liver.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in patients who have not achieved adequate blood glucose control with diet and exercise alone.
Used when monotherapy with either gliclazide or metformin is insufficient to manage blood sugar levels.
Gliclazide stimulates insulin release from the pancreas, while metformin enhances insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues and reduces hepatic glucose production. Their combined action leads to improved blood glucose control.
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
Dosage is determined by your doctor based on your individual needs and response to treatment.
It is typically taken with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects.
Do not crush or chew the tablets; swallow them whole with water.
Lactic acidosis (rare but serious, more likely with kidney impairment): Characterized by muscle pain, weakness, and breathing difficulty.
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Symptoms include sweating, trembling, dizziness, confusion, and palpitations.
Gastrointestinal upset: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, especially with metformin.
Allergic reactions: Skin rash, itching, hives.
Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis. Limit or avoid alcohol while taking this medication.
Hypoglycemia can impair concentration and alertness. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience hypoglycemic symptoms.
Generally not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consult your doctor for alternative options.
Not typically prescribed for children. Dosage and safety are not well established.
Metformin is contraindicated or requires dose adjustment in patients with moderate to severe kidney disease. Kidney function should be monitored regularly.
Caution is advised in patients with liver disease. Liver function should be monitored.
