Glimepiride

A sulfonylurea drug that stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin.

Metformin

A biguanide that improves insulin sensitivity and reduces glucose production by the liver.

Voglibose

An alpha-glucosidase inhibitor that slows down the absorption of carbohydrates from the gut.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise alone are not enough to control blood sugar levels.

Used in patients with inadequate glycemic control on metformin alone or who have contraindications for other medications

This combination medication works through three different mechanisms to lower blood glucose levels. Glimepiride increases insulin secretion, metformin enhances insulin sensitivity and reduces hepatic glucose production, and voglibose inhibits carbohydrate absorption in the gut. This synergistic action provides better glycemic control.

Store at room temperature (20-25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.

Dosage should be determined by a physician based on individual patient needs and response.

Typically started with a low dose and gradually increased as needed to achieve optimal blood sugar control.

Should be taken with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects.

Regular blood glucose monitoring is necessary during treatment.

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Symptoms may include sweating, dizziness, weakness, and confusion.

Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea): More common with metformin.

Lactic acidosis (rare but serious): More common with metformin, especially in patients with kidney disease.

Weight gain: More common with glimepiride.

Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling).

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Hypoglycemia can impair cognitive function and reaction time. Avoid driving or operating machinery if experiencing hypoglycemia.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Alternative treatments should be considered.



Children

Generally not recommended for use in children.



Kidney

Metformin is contraindicated or requires dose adjustment in patients with moderate to severe kidney disease.



Liver

Caution is advised in patients with liver disease. Regular liver function tests may be necessary.
