A sulfonylurea oral antidiabetic drug that stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin.
A biguanide oral antidiabetic drug that improves insulin sensitivity and decreases glucose production by the liver.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (when diet and exercise alone are not enough to control blood sugar levels).
This combination medication works by addressing two key aspects of type 2 diabetes. Glimepiride increases insulin secretion from the pancreas, while metformin enhances insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues and reduces hepatic glucose production. This synergistic effect leads to improved blood glucose control.
Store at room temperature (below 30°C), away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
Dosage should be determined by your doctor based on your individual needs and response to treatment.
Take the medication as prescribed, usually once or twice daily with meals.
Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets.
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Symptoms include sweating, tremors, dizziness, and confusion.
Gastrointestinal upset: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
Weight gain (more associated with glimepiride).
Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling).
Vitamin B12 deficiency (longterm metformin use).
Alcohol can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis. Limit alcohol intake.
Hypoglycemia can impair alertness and reaction time. Avoid driving or operating machinery if experiencing symptoms of low blood sugar.
Generally, this combination is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor.
Not indicated for use in children.
Metformin is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustments may be needed in patients with moderate kidney impairment.
Caution is advised in patients with liver disease. Liver function tests may be needed.
