Ethionamide

Ethionamide is an antibiotic used to treat tuberculosis (TB) infections, particularly those resistant to other medications.

Ethide 250mg Tab (Ethionamide) works by interfering with the growth and multiplication of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that causes TB. It does this by inhibiting the synthesis of mycolic acids, which are essential components of the bacterial cell wall.

Store ethionamide at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

The dosage of ethionamide will vary depending on the individual patient and the severity of their infection. It is typically taken orally, usually once a day, with or without food.

It is essential to follow the instructions provided by your doctor carefully and take ethionamide exactly as prescribed.

Serious side effects can occur, including liver damage, peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage), and psychosis.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, and headache.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects. It is best to avoid alcohol while taking ethionamide.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Ethionamide can cause dizziness, drowsiness, and visual disturbances. It is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Ethionamide can harm an unborn baby. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy. It is also not recommended for use while breastfeeding.



Children

Ethionamide is not typically used in children, as its safety and efficacy in this population have not been established.



Kidney

Liver
