By inhibiting aldose reductase, epalrestat helps to reduce the accumulation of sorbitol in the nerves, which may help to prevent or slow down the progression of diabetic neuropathy.
Store epalrestat at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets. Do not flush unused medication down the toilet or pour it into a drain.
The recommended starting dose of epalrestat is 0.6 grams per day, taken once daily.
