Empagliflozin

A sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (sglt2) inhibitor.

Linagliptin

A dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (dpp-4) inhibitor.

Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults to improve glycemic control, especially in patients who are inadequately controlled with diet and exercise alone.

May be used in combination with other diabetes medications, such as insulin or metformin.

0 Empagliflozin: Blocks the reabsorption of glucose in the kidneys, leading to increased glucose excretion in the urine.1 Linagliptin: Inhibits the breakdown of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), which stimulate insulin secretion and suppress glucagon secretion, ultimately improving glycemic control.

Dosage should be individualized based on patient needs and response.

Typically, the recommended starting dose is one tablet once daily, taken with or without food.

The dose may be adjusted by your healthcare provider as needed.

Serious side effects may include: ketoacidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, kidney problems, heart failure, bone fracture, and allergic reactions.

Common side effects include: urinary tract infections, yeast infections, increased urination, dehydration, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), headache, nausea, and diarrhea.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Consult your doctor about safe alcohol consumption while on this medication.



Driving or operating Machinery

This medication may cause dizziness. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience dizziness.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

This medication may harm a developing fetus. Consult your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking this medication during pregnancy. It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor about breastfeeding while on this medication.



Children

This medication is not approved for use in children.



Kidney

This medication may worsen kidney function. Your doctor will monitor your kidney function while you are on this medication.



Liver

This medication may be less effective in people with liver disease. Your doctor will monitor your liver function while you are on this medication.
