Stavudine

A nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (nrti) that blocks the action of reverse transcriptase, an enzyme hiv needs to replicate.

Lamivudine

Another nrti that also inhibits reverse transcriptase, preventing hiv replication.

Efavirenz

A non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (nnrti) that works differently than nrtis. it binds to reverse transcriptase and directly prevents it from functioning.

Treatment of HIV1 infection in adults and children (specific age and weight criteria may apply).

This combination therapy uses three different classes of antiretroviral drugs that work in tandem to inhibit HIV replication. Stavudine and Lamivudine are NRTIs, which work by interfering with the process where HIV converts its RNA into DNA. Efavirenz, an NNRTI, works by a different mechanism that prevents the reverse transcriptase enzyme from functioning correctly. By attacking HIV from multiple angles, this combination reduces the viral load and helps to improve the immune system.
