Efavirenz

A non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (nnrti) that prevents the hiv virus from replicating.

Emtricitabine

A nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (nrti) that stops the hiv virus from making copies of itself.

Tenofovir

A nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (nrti) that also blocks the hiv virus from multiplying.

Treatment of HIV1 infection in adults and children weighing at least 35 kg.

May be used as part of a combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimen.

This combination medication works by preventing the HIV virus from replicating and spreading within the body. Efavirenz blocks the enzyme reverse transcriptase, which is needed for the virus to make copies of itself. Emtricitabine and tenofovir also inhibit reverse transcriptase, preventing the virus from multiplying.

Store the medication at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.

The usual dose is one tablet taken once daily, with or without food.

Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose based on your individual needs and medical history.

It is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor, even if you feel well.

Serious side effects: Liver problems, seizures, Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a severe skin reaction), suicidal thoughts, psychiatric problems, lactic acidosis (a build-up of lactic acid in the blood).

Other potential side effects: Changes in body fat distribution, bone loss, increased risk of kidney problems.

Common side effects: Dizziness, headache, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, insomnia, nightmares, vivid dreams, depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol may increase the risk of side effects. Talk to your doctor about safe alcohol consumption while taking this medication.



While Driving or operating Machinery

This medication may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

This medication can harm an unborn baby. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking this medication. This medication can pass into breast milk and may harm a breastfeeding baby. Talk to your doctor about the best way to feed your baby if you are taking this medication.



Children

This medication is not recommended for children under 35 kg.



Kidney

This medication can cause kidney problems, especially in people with pre-existing kidney disease. Your doctor may monitor your kidney function while you are taking this medication.



Liver

This medication can cause liver problems. Your doctor may monitor your liver function while you are taking this medication.
