Vancomycin

Vancomycin is an antibiotic that belongs to the glycopeptide class of drugs.It is available in various formulations, including intravenous (IV) injections, oral capsules, and topical solutions.

Treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:

Methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections

Serious skin and skin structure infections

Bacteremia (bloodstream infections)

Endocarditis (infection of the heart lining)

Bone and joint infections

Pneumonia (lung infection)

Clostridium difficileassociated diarrhea (CDAD)

Prophylaxis of endocarditis in patients undergoing dental procedures who are at high risk of developing the infection.

Dravan Inj 1gm (Vancomycin) works by interfering with the formation of bacterial cell walls, which are essential for bacterial survival. It binds to the D-alanyl-D-alanine terminal residues of peptidoglycans, a key component of the bacterial cell wall, thereby inhibiting the synthesis of the cell wall and leading to bacterial death.

Store vancomycin at room temperature, away from heat and direct sunlight. Keep it in its original container with a tightly closed lid. Do not freeze.

The dosage of vancomycin will depend on the type and severity of the infection, your age, weight, and kidney function.

It is usually administered intravenously (IV) or orally, depending on the formulation and the infection being treated.

For intravenous administration, it is typically given as a slow infusion over a period of 30 to 60 minutes.

Oral vancomycin is usually taken several times a day with food.

It is important to follow your healthcare provider's instructions carefully and take the medication exactly as prescribed.

Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Children

Kidney

Liver
