Gliclazide

A sulfonylurea drug that stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise alone are not enough to control blood sugar levels.

Used in patients who require a combination therapy to effectively manage their blood glucose.

This combination drug works synergistically. Gliclazide increases insulin secretion, pioglitazone enhances insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, and metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. This combined action leads to better blood glucose control.

Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Dosage should be determined by a healthcare professional based on individual needs and response.

Generally, the medication is taken orally with or without food, as directed by the physician.

Start with a lower dose and gradually increase as tolerated to achieve optimal glycemic control.

Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea – more likely with metformin).

Liver problems (rare, requires regular liver function monitoring, especially with pioglitazone).

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Symptoms include dizziness, sweating, tremor, palpitations.

Weight gain (more likely with pioglitazone).

Fluid retention (more likely with pioglitazone).

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis. Limit or avoid alcohol intake while on this medication.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Hypoglycemia can impair alertness and cognitive function. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience symptoms of low blood sugar.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Generally, this combination is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consult your doctor for alternative options.



Children

Not indicated for use in children.



Kidney

Caution is advised in patients with kidney disease. Metformin dosage may need to be adjusted or avoided entirely.



Liver

Caution is advised in patients with liver disease. Regular liver function tests are essential, especially when taking pioglitazone.
