Gliclazide

Gliclazide is the active ingredient in this medication.It belongs to a class of drugs called sulfonylureas.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (noninsulin-dependent diabetes) when diet and exercise alone are not enough to control blood sugar levels.

Dianorm 40 Tab (Gliclazide) works by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas. Insulin is a hormone that helps your body use glucose (sugar) for energy. By increasing insulin production, gliclazide helps lower blood sugar levels.

Store gliclazide at room temperature, away from heat and direct sunlight. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.

The dosage of gliclazide is determined by your doctor based on your individual needs and response to treatment.

It is typically taken once daily with breakfast, but your doctor may adjust the dosage or timing based on your blood sugar levels.

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, break, or chew the tablets.

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Common side effect that can cause symptoms like sweating, trembling, dizziness, headache, confusion, and weakness.

Liver problems: In rare cases, gliclazide can cause liver damage.

Blood disorders: Gliclazide can affect blood cell counts, leading to anemia or other blood problems.

Gastrointestinal issues: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain.

Skin reactions: Rash, itching, hives, and skin discoloration.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol may increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking gliclazide.



Driving or operating Machinery

Gliclazide can cause dizziness and hypoglycemia, which may impair your ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid these activities if you experience such symptoms.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Gliclazide is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor about safe alternatives.



Children

Gliclazide is not approved for use in children.



Kidney

Kidney problems can affect the way gliclazide is eliminated from the body. Your doctor may adjust the dosage based on your kidney function.



Liver

Liver problems can also affect the metabolism of gliclazide. Your doctor may monitor your liver function regularly.
