Degarelix is the active ingredient in the drug formulation.It is a synthetic nonapeptide analogue of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH).Degarelix acts as a GnRH antagonist, meaning it blocks the action of natural GnRH in the body.
Degarelix is primarily indicated for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer.
It is used to suppress testosterone production in men with metastatic prostate cancer.
Degapride 80mg Inj (Degarelix) works by binding to GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland. This blocks the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which are responsible for testosterone production in the testes. By inhibiting testosterone production, degarelix helps to slow down the growth and spread of prostate cancer cells.
Degarelix should be stored in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C (36°F and 46°F).
Degarelix is administered as a single subcutaneous injection under the skin.
The dosage and frequency of injections are determined by your doctor and depend on your individual needs.
The usual starting dose is 80 mg, followed by maintenance doses of 40 mg every month.
Hot flashes are the most common side effect of degarelix.
Other possible side effects include:
Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site
Decreased libido
Erectile dysfunction
Fatigue
Weight gain
Mood changes
Bone pain
Increased risk of osteoporosis
The use of alcohol with degarelix may increase the risk of certain side effects, such as hot flashes.
