Metformin

Used in patients who are not adequately controlled on metformin alone or gliclazide alone.

Gliclazide increases insulin secretion from the pancreas, while metformin enhances insulin sensitivity and decreases hepatic glucose production. This combined action leads to improved blood glucose control.

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Symptoms include sweating, dizziness, shakiness, and confusion.

Lactic acidosis (rare but serious complication with metformin, especially in patients with kidney problems).

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol consumption should be limited as it can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Caution advised if experiencing hypoglycemia, as it can impair alertness and coordination.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Children

Not usually prescribed for children.



Kidney

Dosage adjustment or contraindicated in patients with severe kidney disease (due to risk of lactic acidosis with metformin).
