Piperacillin

A broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic.

Treatment of complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSI)

Treatment of intraabdominal infections (IAI)

Treatment of pneumonia (including hospitalacquired pneumonia)

Treatment of gynecological infections (e.g., pelvic inflammatory disease)

Treatment of bacteremia that occurs in association with any of the above infections

Piperacillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Tazobactam inhibits beta-lactamases, enzymes produced by bacteria that inactivate penicillin antibiotics. This combination allows piperacillin to effectively reach its target and kill susceptible bacteria.

Store at controlled room temperature 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Protect from light and moisture. Discard any unused portion after the expiration date.

Dosage and frequency are determined by the severity of the infection, the patient's renal function, and the specific pathogen involved.

Always follow the prescribed dosage and administration instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist.

Intravenous (IV) administration is common. Oral formulations may not be available.

Alcohol Consumption

The interaction between alcohol and piperacillin/tazobactam is generally mild. However, excessive alcohol use can worsen potential side effects.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Piperacillin/tazobactam may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some individuals, impairing their ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid these activities until you know how the medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Use only if clearly needed; discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks. It may be excreted into breast milk.



Children

Dosage adjustments may be necessary based on the child's age and weight. A doctor should make these decisions.



Kidney

Dosage reduction may be necessary for patients with impaired renal function.



Liver

Monitor liver function regularly, especially during prolonged treatment.
