Dapagliflozin

Linagliptin

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) to improve glycemic control in adults, especially when diet and exercise alone are insufficient.

May be used as monotherapy or in combination with other diabetes medications.

This drug combination works by targeting two key mechanisms involved in blood sugar regulation: 1. Dapagliflozin: A sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It blocks the reabsorption of glucose from the kidneys back into the bloodstream, leading to increased glucose excretion in urine, thereby lowering blood sugar levels. 2. Linagliptin: A dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It prevents the breakdown of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), which stimulate insulin release and suppress glucagon secretion. This results in enhanced insulin sensitivity and reduced glucose production by the liver.

Store at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F). Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Dosage is typically 5 mg dapagliflozin + 5 mg linagliptin once daily, taken with or without food.

The dosage may be adjusted based on individual patient response and blood sugar control.

Common side effects: Urinary tract infections, vaginal yeast infections, genital itching, increased urination, dehydration, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), upper respiratory tract infections, and nausea.

Serious side effects: Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), severe allergic reactions, pancreatitis, and fractures.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol may lower blood sugar levels and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Consult with your doctor about appropriate alcohol consumption while taking this medication.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

This medication may cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially in the beginning. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience these symptoms.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Dapagliflozin and linagliptin have not been studied in pregnant women. It is unknown if these medications pass into breast milk. Consult with your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.



Children

The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established.



Kidney

Kidney function should be monitored regularly, as dapagliflozin can be excreted by the kidneys. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with kidney problems.



Liver

Liver function should be monitored regularly, especially during the first few months of treatment.
