A sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (sglt2) inhibitor.
A biguanide anti-hyperglycemic agent.
Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, particularly those who have not achieved adequate glycemic control with metformin alone.
May be used in combination with other diabetes medications if needed to achieve target blood glucose levels.
Dapagliflozin works by blocking the SGLT2 protein in the kidneys, preventing the reabsorption of glucose into the bloodstream and increasing its excretion in the urine. Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver, improves insulin sensitivity, and reduces glucose absorption from the intestines.
Store at room temperature, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.

Typically started at a lower dose and gradually increased as tolerated.
Take with food to minimize gastrointestinal side effects.
Less common but serious side effects: Ketoacidosis, lactic acidosis (with metformin), hypoglycemia (if combined with other anti-diabetic medications), hypotension, allergic reactions.

Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor immediately if pregnancy is suspected or planned.
