Povidone Iodine

Povidone-iodine is a complex of iodine and povidone (polyvinylpyrrolidone). Iodine is the active antimicrobial agent.The povidone acts as a carrier, allowing for slow release of iodine and improved solubility.

Disinfection of skin before surgery or injections.

Treatment of minor wounds and burns.

Prevention of infection in minor cuts and abrasions.

Treatment of certain skin infections (as directed by a doctor).

Povidone-iodine's antimicrobial action is primarily due to iodine's ability to disrupt the function of microbial proteins and nucleic acids, leading to cell death. The slow release from the povidone complex prolongs its effectiveness.

Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use if the solution is discolored or contains particulate matter.

For topical application, apply a thin layer to the affected area and allow to dry.

Do not apply to deep wounds or large burn areas without medical supervision.

Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
