Aldosterone causes your body to retain sodium and water, which can lead to high blood pressure and fluid buildup. By blocking aldosterone, spironolactone helps your body get rid of excess sodium and water, lowering blood pressure and reducing fluid retention.

Store spironolactone at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

The dosage of spironolactone will vary depending on the condition being treated and the individual patient.

It is usually taken by mouth, once or twice a day.

Take spironolactone exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Do not stop taking this medication without talking to your doctor.

You may need to take spironolactone for a long time to control your condition.

Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Spironolactone can harm an unborn baby. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy. It is also not known if spironolactone passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of using spironolactone while breastfeeding.



Children

Spironolactone is not usually recommended for use in children.
