Povidone-iodine is a complex of iodine and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). Iodine is the active antimicrobial agent.The PVP acts as a carrier, allowing for slow release of iodine and improved skin adherence.
Disinfection of skin before surgery or injections.
Treatment of minor wounds and burns (cuts, abrasions, scrapes).
Prevention of infection in minor skin injuries.
Treatment of some fungal skin infections (consult a doctor).
Povidone-iodine's antimicrobial action is due to iodine's ability to penetrate microbial cells, disrupting their function and leading to their death. The slow release of iodine from the PVP complex provides sustained antimicrobial activity.
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Discard any solution that is discolored or contains particulate matter.
Apply a thin layer to the affected area, covering the wound completely.
For wounds, apply 1-3 times daily or as directed by a physician.
For surgical prepping, follow the specific instructions provided by the healthcare professional.
Do not use on large areas of broken skin without consulting a doctor.
