Cefixime /5ml

Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic.The '5ml' refers to the volume of the liquid suspension formulation.

Treatment of bacterial infections susceptible to cefixime.

Common infections include ear infections (otitis media), respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections (cystitis, pyelonephritis), and skin infections.

Cefixime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. It achieves this by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), interfering with the synthesis of peptidoglycan, a crucial component of the bacterial cell wall.

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Discard any unused portion after the expiry date.

Dosage is determined by the doctor based on the patient's age, weight, and the severity of the infection.

The liquid suspension must be shaken well before each dose.

Administer with or without food.

The medication should be taken for the full duration prescribed by the physician, even if symptoms improve, to prevent recurrence of the infection.

Children

Kidney

Dosage adjustment may be necessary for patients with kidney impairment. Renal function should be monitored.



Liver

Liver function should be monitored, especially with prolonged use. Cefixime is generally well-tolerated by the liver.
