Aztreonam is a type of antibiotic called a monobactam.It is available as a powder for injection or infusion.
Aztreonam is used to treat serious bacterial infections, particularly those affecting the lungs (pneumonia), urinary tract (UTI), skin, and abdomen.
It is effective against a wide range of gramnegative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
Azotum Inj 2gm (Aztreonam) works by inhibiting the synthesis of peptidoglycans, essential components of bacterial cell walls. This disruption in cell wall formation leads to bacterial cell death.
Store Aztreonam powder at room temperature (15-30°C).
Protect from light and moisture.
Once reconstituted, the solution should be used immediately or stored in the refrigerator (2-8°C) for up to 24 hours.
Discard any unused portion.
The dosage and duration of Aztreonam treatment depend on the severity of the infection, patient's age, weight, and overall health.
It is typically administered intravenously (IV) over 30-60 minutes.
The frequency of administration can vary from once a day to every 8 hours.

Serious side effects are rare but may include: seizures, allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis), and kidney problems.
Common side effects include: pain at the injection site, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, and itching.
Aztreonam may interact with alcohol. It is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption while taking Aztreonam.
Aztreonam may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some individuals. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how Aztreonam affects you.
Aztreonam should only be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding if the benefits outweigh the potential risks. Consult with your healthcare provider for guidance.

Aztreonam is primarily excreted by the kidneys. Patients with kidney problems may require dosage adjustments.
