Atorvastatin

A statin medication that lowers low-density lipoprotein (ldl) cholesterol, often referred to as 'bad' cholesterol.

Fenofibrate

A fibrate medication that lowers triglycerides and raises high-density lipoprotein (hdl) cholesterol, often referred to as 'good' cholesterol.

Mixed dyslipidemia (high cholesterol and high triglycerides) that is not adequately controlled with diet and exercise alone.

Prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with high risk factors such as diabetes, coronary artery disease, or a strong family history of heart disease.

Atorvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, a key enzyme in cholesterol synthesis, thereby reducing LDL cholesterol production. Fenofibrate activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-α), leading to increased lipoprotein lipase activity, reduced triglyceride levels, and increased HDL cholesterol levels.

Store at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

Typically taken once daily, with or without food.

Children

Kidney

Caution is advised in patients with kidney disease; dosage adjustments may be necessary.



Liver

Regular liver function tests are often recommended, especially initially, to monitor for liver damage. The drug should be discontinued if significant liver damage occurs.
