Atenolol

A beta-blocker that slows down the heart rate and lowers blood pressure.

Hydrochlorothiazide

A diuretic (water pill) that helps the body get rid of excess fluid and salt.

High blood pressure (hypertension)

To prevent heart attacks and strokes in people with high blood pressure, heart failure, or who have had a heart attack.

Atenolol blocks the effects of adrenaline and noradrenaline on the heart, slowing the heart rate and reducing blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide works by increasing the amount of urine produced, which reduces the amount of fluid in the body and lowers blood pressure.

Store at room temperature, between 15-30 degrees Celsius (59-86 degrees Fahrenheit). Keep away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.

The dosage of Atenolol + Hydrochlorothiazide is individualized and will depend on your condition and response to treatment.

It is typically taken once a day, with or without food.

Do not stop taking this medication without talking to your doctor.

Less common side effects may include coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath.

Serious side effects are rare but can include low blood pressure, heart failure, and kidney problems.

Common side effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, and nausea.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can increase the risk of side effects from Atenolol + Hydrochlorothiazide, such as low blood pressure.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

This medication may cause dizziness or lightheadedness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

This medication may harm an unborn baby or pass into breast milk. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.



Children

This medication is not usually recommended for children.



Kidney

This medication can cause kidney problems. Your doctor will monitor your kidney function if you have kidney disease.



Liver

This medication is not usually recommended for people with liver disease.
