Tropicamide

Is a type of medication known as an anticholinergic agent, specifically a muscarinic antagonist.

It is commonly used for:

Tropicamide is primarily used to dilate the pupils of the eyes (mydriasis).

Eye examinations, such as funduscopy (examining the back of the eye) and tonometry (measuring eye pressure).

Pre-operative dilation of the pupils before certain eye surgeries.

Treatment of uveitis (inflammation of the middle layer of the eye).

Treatment of iritis (inflammation of the iris, the colored part of the eye).

Appamide Eye Solution 5ml (Tropicamide) works by blocking the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter, at the muscarinic receptors in the eye. This blockage prevents the iris muscle from constricting, leading to pupil dilation.

Tropicamide eye drops should be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat.

The dosage and frequency of administration of tropicamide eye drops will vary depending on the reason for use and the patient's individual needs.

Your doctor or ophthalmologist will determine the appropriate dosage for you.

Typically, tropicamide eye drops are instilled into the affected eye(s) one to three times a day.

Common side effects of tropicamide eye drops include:

Blurred vision

Dryness of the eyes

Increased sensitivity to light (photophobia)

Headache

Eye discomfort

Temporary stinging or burning sensation upon application.

Alcohol Consumption

It is best to avoid alcohol consumption while using tropicamide eye drops, as it can exacerbate some of the side effects, such as blurred vision.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

Avoid driving or operating machinery until your vision returns to normal after using tropicamide eye drops, as blurred vision can be a significant safety risk.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

It is important to consult with your doctor before using tropicamide eye drops if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The safety of tropicamide for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established.



Children

Kidney & Liver

Tropicamide is primarily metabolized in the liver and excreted in the urine. People with kidney or liver problems may need to have their dosage adjusted by their healthcare provider.
