Acitretin

Acitretin is the active ingredient in medications like Soriatane and Neotigason.It belongs to a class of drugs called retinoids, which are synthetic forms of vitamin A.

Acitretin is primarily used to treat severe, chronic, plaque psoriasis, a skin condition that causes red, scaly patches on the skin.

It may also be used to treat other skin conditions like palmoplantar pustulosis and severe acne.

Acrotac 10mg Cap (Acitretin) works by slowing down the growth of skin cells and reducing inflammation. It binds to retinoic acid receptors in the skin, which regulates cell growth and differentiation.

Do not flush unused medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so by your doctor.

Common side effects of acitretin include dry skin, lips, and eyes, headache, nausea, and elevated liver enzymes.

Alcohol Consumption

Avoid consuming excessive amounts of alcohol while taking acitretin, as it can increase the risk of liver damage.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

Acitretin can cause drowsiness or dizziness in some individuals, so caution is advised while driving or operating machinery.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Acitretin is highly teratogenic (can cause birth defects). Women of childbearing potential must use two forms of effective contraception while taking acitretin and for at least 3 years after stopping treatment. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.



Children

Acitretin is not approved for use in children.



Kidney

Acitretin is primarily metabolized by the liver and is not significantly excreted by the kidneys. However, individuals with impaired kidney function may require dosage adjustments.



Liver

Acitretin can potentially cause liver damage. Your doctor may monitor your liver function with blood tests during treatment.
