Pilocarpine

Pilocarpine is the active ingredient in this medication.It is a cholinergic agonist, meaning it stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system.

Treatment of dry eye disease (keratoconjunctivitis sicca).

Treatment of glaucoma, a condition that damages the optic nerve.

Stimulation of sweating for diagnostic purposes (pilocarpine iontophoresis).

Pilo 2%/5ml Drops (Pilocarpine) works by mimicking the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system. This action leads to several effects, including increased tear production in the eye, constriction of the pupil (miosis), and relaxation of the ciliary muscle, which improves drainage of fluid from the eye. In the case of sweating, pilocarpine stimulates sweat glands.

Store pilocarpine at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.

The dosage of pilocarpine varies depending on the condition being treated and the individual patient.

It is usually administered as eye drops, but it can also be given as a tablet or injection.

Alcohol Consumption

Avoid alcohol consumption while taking pilocarpine, as it can increase the risk of side effects.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Pilocarpine can cause blurred vision. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Pilocarpine is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the benefits outweigh the risks. Consult your doctor.



Children

Pilocarpine should be used with caution in children.



Kidney

Pilocarpine can affect kidney function. Your doctor will monitor your kidney function if you have kidney problems.

Pilocarpine can affect liver function. Your doctor will monitor your liver function if you have liver problems.
