Benzthiazide

A thiazide diuretic that works by increasing the excretion of sodium, chloride, and water from the body.

Triamterene

A potassium-sparing diuretic that blocks the action of aldosterone, a hormone that promotes sodium retention and potassium excretion.

High blood pressure (hypertension)

Fluid retention (edema) caused by heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disease

This combination medication works by increasing the excretion of urine, which helps to lower blood pressure and reduce fluid retention. Benzthiazide is a thiazide diuretic that increases the excretion of sodium, chloride, and water. Triamterene is a potassium-sparing diuretic that blocks the action of aldosterone, a hormone that promotes sodium retention and potassium excretion. By working together, these two drugs help to lower blood pressure effectively while minimizing the risk of potassium loss.

Store at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

The dosage of this medication is determined by your doctor and depends on your individual needs and medical condition.

It is usually taken once daily, with or without food.

Do not take more or less of this medication than prescribed by your doctor.

Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor.

High levels of potassium in the blood (hyperkalemia)

Dry mouth

Dizziness

Headache

Muscle cramps

Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling)

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can increase the risk of side effects from this medication. Avoid alcohol while taking this medication.



While Driving or operating Machinery

This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

This medication should not be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Talk to your doctor about the potential risks and benefits of this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.



Children

This medication is not recommended for use in children.



Kidney

If you have kidney disease, you may need a lower dose of this medication.



Liver

If you have liver disease, you may need a lower dose of this medication.
