Levetiracetam

Levetiracetam is the active ingredient in the medication.It is an anti-epileptic drug (AED) that works by blocking the spread of abnormal electrical activity in the brain.

Levetiracetam is used to treat partialonset seizures in adults and children 4 years of age and older.

It can also be used to treat myoclonic seizures in adults and children 12 years of age and older.

In some cases, it may be used as an addon therapy for generalized tonic-clonic seizures in adults.

Keppra Syp 300ml (Levetiracetam) works by binding to a specific protein in the brain called synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A). This binding action helps to reduce the release of certain neurotransmitters, which in turn helps to prevent the spread of abnormal electrical activity that causes seizures.

Store levetiracetam at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight.

The dosage of levetiracetam will be determined by your doctor based on your individual needs and medical history.

It is typically taken twice a day, with or without food.

Follow your doctor's instructions carefully and do not change your dosage without consulting them.

The most common side effects of levetiracetam include drowsiness, dizziness, and fatigue.

Other possible side effects include: headache, nausea, vomiting, difficulty concentrating, behavior changes, and mood swings.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of side effects from levetiracetam. It's best to avoid alcohol while taking this medication.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

Levetiracetam can cause drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Levetiracetam can pass into breast milk. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of using levetiracetam if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.



Children

Levetiracetam is safe for children 4 years of age and older when used as directed by a doctor.



Kidney

Levetiracetam is mostly eliminated by the kidneys. If you have kidney problems, your doctor may need to adjust your dosage.



Liver

Levetiracetam is not broken down by the liver. However, if you have liver problems, your doctor may need to monitor you closely while you are taking this medication.
